Competing in a Low-Carbon Market: Concrete Production in 2026 and Beyond

As owners and contractors increasingly consider carbon performance alongside cost and quality, producers face new challenges and opportunities. This talk examines current best practices in sustainable concrete production and explains how new materials, specifications, and performance standards are changing the competitive landscape.

Sean Monkman, Ph.D., P.E.

Sean is a technology and sustainability executive and Principal at Six Down Consulting, where he advises cleantech and construction companies on low-carbon materials, industrial deployment, and innovation strategy. He previously served in senior leadership roles at CarbonCure Technologies and ICON, leading global programs in CO₂ utilization, 3D-printed construction, and sustainable infrastructure. Over his 20+ year career, he has directed large-scale R&D and commercialization initiatives deployed across hundreds of industrial facilities worldwide and served as scientific lead for the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE. In 2023 he was recognized with the ACI Foundation’s Jean-Claude Roumain Innovation in Concrete Award.  Sean is an active leader in the American Concrete Institute and is widely recognized for translating advanced materials innovation into safe, scalable, and commercially viable engineering practice.
