Lisa will explore how mineral admixtures such as fly ash, slag, and silica fume, together with liquid admixtures including water reducers, superplasticizers, and air entrainers, interact in ways that demand a deeper understanding of concrete chemistry and performance mechanisms. By examining both opportunities and challenges, the session will underscore the importance of tailoring concrete solutions to project-specific needs rather than relying on one-size-fits-all practices. Attendees will gain practical insights into balancing sustainability, workability, durability, and long-term performance when designing and delivering modern concrete mixtures

Professional Biography:

Lisa Lukefahr, Texas Concrete Pavement Association (TCPA)

Lisa Lukefahr has served as Executive Director of the Texas Concrete Pavement Association (TCPA) since 2016, following a 26-year career with TxDOT focused on pavements, materials, and concrete standards. With a background in both engineering and research, she played a key role in modernizing cement testing and implementing CRCP standards. Lisa will now present on providing a contractor’s perspective on the current design approaches for concrete pavements and their impact on construction.
